Deciding how many you want

The number of animals you should get depends on how much land you have and how much labor you can devote to care. Whatever you decide on, ask the person you’re getting an animal from or ask somebody who has animals about how many critters he or she recommends in your situation.

Some animals are herd animals and should never be isolated. It’s always good to have at least two animals so they can keep each other company. And that doesn’t always mean two of the same breed — you can start out with one cow in the same pen with a few sheep.
